Military (Navy) Romance Story : Love And Frater..

Is “Falling in Love” tantamount to “Conduct Unbecoming” of an Officer…
A few days in the past somebody requested me whether or not an officer was allowed to marry a soldier.

This reminded me of a story I had written a few years in the past.

So – I delved deep into my “Humor in Uniform” archives and pulled out the story so that you can read.

Dear Reader : Do benefit from the story – and do remark and tell me your views about love and marriage between officers and soldiers/sailors…

Fiction Short Story
A Spoof
LOVERS IN UNIFORM – A Spoof by Vikram Karve

The younger woman naval officer – a Lieutenant – parks her scooter and starts strolling to her workplace within the navy shore institution – a stone frigate.

The moment she enters her workplace – she sees her boss – the pinnacle of the Training Division – a middle-aged Commander with a salt and pepper beard.

Like her – he too is a “schoolie” landlubber in white uniform – though he’s 15 years her senior – and the senior-most Training Officer on the base.

The Commander (Ed) says anxiously: “Put in your peak cap and come with me fast. The Previous Man wants to see you instantly.”

The “Old Man” – their Commanding Officer, a Commodore, seems at them sternly.
They see that the Commodore is furious – he doesn’t return their salute.

Also – the Commodore doesn’t ask them to sit down down.
The Commodore gets straight to the purpose.

He appears on the young lady naval officer and asks her: “Where the hell were you final night ”
“Sir…Sir…” she stutters.

“Come on, communicate up – I haven’t bought all day,” the Commodore shouts.
“Sir, I had gone for a movie,” she says.

“I know – at Eros – I was sitting proper behind you,” the Commodore says.
“Sorry Sir – I didn’t see you – in any other case I’d have certainly wished you,” she says.

“Don’t give me bullshit – I don’t care two hoots whether or not you would like me or not. I need to know who was that man sitting right subsequent to you – the bugger with whom you were indulging in a disgusting public display of affection – they call it PDA – don’t they ” the Commodore says.

“Yes, Sir – they call it PDA – public show of affection,” the Commander (Ed) says.
“You shut up. Did I ask you… ” the Commodore scowls at the Schoolie Commander (Ed) – who starts trembling inside.

The Commodore seems at the younger woman Lieutenant and barks out loudly: “Speak up, will you Who the hell was that man sitting subsequent to you in the cinema… I saw that you just two had been getting intimate – and also you have been shamelessly making out with him proper there in the film hall – you have been indulging in most scandalous conduct. And that too in public. Bloody PDA or whatever they name it!”

“Sir – he is a pal,” the lady naval officer says.
“Friend… My bloody foot…! The bugger is a sailor…” the Commodore shouts.

“Sir – he’s a Chief Period …” the lady naval officer says.
“I know he’s a bloody Period. He was on the final ship I commanded…” the Commodore says.

“Sir – he is Chief Petty Officer,” the lady navy officer says.
“So… Does that make him a bloody officer… Now – younger lady – you take heed to me clearly – I won’t have my officers shacking up with sailors…” the Commodore bellows.

The Commodore turns purple as he shouts – he appears livid with anger.
The Commander (Ed) is perturbed at the Commodore’s profane language, so he says: “Sir, I’ll counsel her…”

“I told you to shut your bloody entice, didn’t I… ” the Commodore barks at the Commander (Ed).

“I am sorry, Sir…” the Commander (Ed) says.
Then – the Commodore seems at the younger lady navy officer and asks her: “How do you know this guy ”

“Sir – we’re childhood mates,” she says.
“You are childhood associates with a sailor… How is that doable… ” the Commodore asks her.

“Sir – we had been neighbours – we went to the same college – he was my elder brother’s classmate. And our fathers had been good buddies – they had been from the identical hometown. Sir – our fathers had been within the navy,” the lady navy officer says.

“Your fathers were officers in the navy ” the Commodore asks her.
“No Sir – our fathers had been sailors – they retired as Grasp Chief Petty Officers,” the lady naval officer says.

“Oh. So that you became a naval officer – and your bloody boyfriend joined as an Era…” the Commodore says.

“Why the hell didn’t your boyfriend be part of as an officer… ” the Commodore says.
“Sir – he tried for NDA after school – but he couldn’t clear the examination – however he was selected as an artificer apprentice. His father was retiring that 12 months – and he instructed him to affix as an apprentice – his father was in a rush for him to affix and settle down in life…” the lady naval officer says.

“And you probably did your graduation and joined the navy as a bloody schoolie… ” the Commodore says.
“Yes, Sir…” the lady naval officer says.

“Anyway – call it fate – name it luck – name it destiny – but you remember one factor – you are an officer – and you can not fraternize with sailors. Is that clear… ” the Commodore says.

“Sir – he plans to stop the navy and be part of the merchant navy as a marine engineer officer…” the lady naval officer says.

“And when the hell is that going to happen ” the Commodore asks her.
“After 5 years, Sir – the moment he finishes his 15 12 months contract,” the lady naval officer says.

“That’s a good distance off. Now you hearken to me fastidiously – as long as you’re a naval officer and he is a sailor in the navy – you are not to fulfill him or maintain contact with him in any approach – you might be to not have stone island jeans size 42 any sort of relationship or friendship with him – is that clear… ” the Commodore says firmly.

“Sir – Please Sir – he is more than a buddy – we’re thinking of getting married,” the lady naval officer says.

“You need to get married to a sailor… Are you bloody loopy… I hope he shouldn’t be screwing you – that’s the last bloody thing we wish – officers and sailors fornicating with each other…!” the Commodore yells.

“Sir – please don’t use such foul language…” the lady naval officer says.
“Oh! So you don’t like foul language, is it Okay, young lady – I will discuss to you in plain and simple language that you can understand. Now you hear carefully – if you don’t do as I say – in case you meet that sailor once more – you may be in deep bother – we’ll throw the guide at you,” the Commodore says menacingly.

“Throw the e-book at me, Sir ” the lady naval officer asks.
“The Navy Act – I counsel you purchase a copy – it is available at any bookstore which sells legislation books. Of course – there may be a copy in our library too. And be sure to read Chapter VIII – Articles of War…” the Commodore says.

“Articles of Struggle… Sir – however there isn’t a war going on…” the lady naval officer says, confused.

“The Articles of Struggle are a set of regulations – the statutory provisions within the Navy Act that regulate and govern the conduct and behaviour of officers and sailors of the navy – and since you are in the navy – they apply to you too – and so they very a lot apply to that prime-and-mighty Chief Petty Officer – that bloody boyfriend of yours. We will see to it that both of you might be punished severely…” the Commodore says threateningly.

“Sir – but what improper have we accomplished… We are simply in love with one another. And please tell me what is his fault… Is it his fault that he’s a sailor and he is love with me who is an officer… Sir – I don’t need you to harm him in any manner…” the lady naval officer pleads.

“You are asking me what improper you will have completed… I told you, didn’t I You might be an Officer. He’s a Sailor. And – an Officer can not fall in love with a Sailor – that is what’s wrong. You might be each are guilty of fraternization – so we’ll charge you both – and both of you might be likely to face court docket-martial…” the Commodore warns the lady officer.

“Court-martial… Sir – please don’t say such issues. You are talking as if we have now broken the law – as if we have now committed some grave offence…” the lady naval officer says, trembling with trepidation.

“Of course, you will have committed an offence,” the Commodore says matter-of-factly.
“Offence What offence have we dedicated, Sir We’re just seeing each other. With what offence are you able to cost us ” the lady naval officer asks.

“We can all the time charge you with the “catch-all offence” – you can be charged with conduct prejudicial to good order and naval discipline – each of you – under Part seventy four of the Navy Act.”

“Sir – please tell me. How is our conduct prejudicial to good order and naval self-discipline You want to charge us with breaking self-discipline just because we went out together on a date… ”

“Yes. You are an officer and he is a sailor – you must respect the distinction in your ranks. You might be breaking self-discipline by fraternizing with a sailor and never respecting the distinction in rank. An officer engaging in an unduly acquainted relationship with a sailor is prejudicial to good order and naval self-discipline and is unacceptable behaviour. It is simply not done. It is gross indiscipline. Do you understand ”

“Sir, it is our personal life. We see each other when we’re off-obligation – and we meet outside in civilian areas. So how are we breaking self-discipline ”

“There is no private life once you be part of the navy. You better fall in line and behave yourself – or you both will likely be charged and punished – and – as for you there is one more thing…” the Commodore says.

“What, Sir ” the lady naval officer says.
“Since you might be an officer – you’ll be additionally charged with scandalous conduct unbecoming the character of an officer.”

“Scandalous… Conduct unbecoming the character of an officer… ” the lady naval officer asks, bewildered.

“Yes – conduct unbecoming of an officer. That’s part fifty four (2) of the Navy Act – go and examine it up. I instructed you we’ll throw the ebook at you should you don’t behave yourself…” the Commodore says, wanting the Lady Lieutenant in the eye.

The younger lady naval officer – the Lady Lieutenant – looks as if she is going to interrupt down with worry.

Then – the Commodore seems on the Schoolie Commander (Ed) – and the Commodore shouts on the Schoolie Commander: “As for you – should you don’t cease her from persevering with this nonsense – we are going to cost you with abetment of all the offences she is committing – and you can say goodbye to your career.”

“Abetment… ” the flabbergasted Schoolie Commander (Ed) asks.
“Go and read Part 76 of the Navy Act,” the Commodore says to the Schoolie Commander (Ed).

The Schoolie Commander starts trembling – and he mumbles, “Yes, Sir.”
The Commodore warns the Schoolie Commander, “I guarantee you that if this hanky-panky does not stop instantly – all of you can be in huge hassle – you – Commander (Ed) – the sailor boyfriend – and particularly you, young lady,” the Commodore says – turning to the young lady naval officer.

The Commodore seems at the Lady Lieutenant and repeats his last words: “Yes – especially you, Lieutenant – you’ll be in real deep hassle – they could even throw you out of the Navy – dismissed with disgrace…”

Whereas the Commodore commanding the stone frigate is reading the riot act to the younger lady naval officer – the Captain of the frigate (the ship on which the young woman’s lover, the Chief Petty Officer, is borne) is acting with pace and dispatch.

Yes – the Captain of the ship is taking swift motion on the Lady Lieutenant’s boyfriend – her “lover boy” sailor.

Earlier than he realizes what is happening – the hapless sailor is immediately transferred to a ship headed east – to be dropped off to his new duty station on a remote desolate island in the midst of the sea.

Next morning – the younger lady naval officer is sitting in a train – on her strategy to take up her new appointment because the Education Officer of a small naval base in a distant place in the “back of beyond”.

The “powers-that-be” hope that distance will make the ardour of the lovers cool off.
As they say: … “out of sight” – “out of mind” …

In true navy model – an ungainly drawback has been neatly solved.
The “lovers in uniform” have been separated.

A scandalous liaison has been terminated.
A messy courtroom martial has been prevented.

Navy customs and traditions have been upheld.
Because the rushing practice heads towards her new destination – the Lady Lieutenant yearns for her boyfriend – sure – naval officers have “hearts” too.

Stylish Mens Stone Island Tracksuit Light GreyAs her heart aches for her “lover boy” sailor – the heartbroken young lady naval officer remembers the consoling phrases of her ex-boss, the Schoolie Commander, who had come to see her off on the railway station: “The Navy is a System – and you need to by no means combat against the system – because the system always wins…!”

“Fraternization” is a uniquely army concept.

“Fraternization” is the term traditionally used to identify private relationships that contravene the customary bounds of acceptable senior-subordinate relationships.

Within the Defence Companies – “Fraternization” is prohibited because it is taken into account to be prejudicial to good order and discipline.

Any “unduly familiar relationship” between a senior and a junior is deemed to be fraternization.

Marriage (which includes intimate sexual relationship) is an “unduly familiar relationship”.
Many different relationships like courting, living together and other intimate friendships may also be deemed to be “unduly familiar relationships”.

Strictly talking – prohibition of Fraternization ought to apply to all Army Personnel – both to Officers and to PBOR (Personnel Under Officer Rank which comprise all Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen).

Nevertheless – in the Indian Armed Forces – a number of leniency is shown so far as relationships between senior male officers and junior female officers are concerned (despite their distinction in rank).

Many male officers have “unduly familiar relationships” with feminine officers (marriage).
Is this not “fraternization”

Strictly speaking – it’s fraternization.
However – in apply it isn’t handled as “fraternization”.

In reality – “brother officers” are permitted to marry “sister officers” – yes – male officers are allowed to marry feminine officers.

There are various “in-service couples” in the Armed Forces – and this trend of DIFC (Double Income Fauji Couples) is increasing in all the three Defence Companies.

Someone even mentioned that the Military, Navy and Air Power encourage marriages between uniformed “Fauji” officers by providing varied sops like frequent postings (partner postings) and dual accommodation seniority carry ahead and many others.

This encouragement to “marriage in uniform” is clear in case you observe the growing variety of marriages between male officers and feminine officers in the uniformed services.

Does this not go in opposition to the tenets of “fraternization”
Suppose – in the Navy – a male Commander marries a female Lieutenant – or – within the Military – a male Lieutenant Colonel marries a female Captain – or – within the Air Power – a male Squadron Leader marries a feminine Flight Lieutenant – is it not a case of “fraternization”…

Surprisingly – marriages and intimate relationships between two officers are not thought of “fraternization” in the Indian Armed Forces.

It is okay for a male officer to have an “unduly familiar relationship” (marriage) with a feminine officer – despite their distinction in seniority.

But – what will happen if a female defence officer wants to marry a male soldier, sailor or airman…

It will possibly occur – anyone can fall in love with anyone.
Will the armed forces allow officers to marry troopers, sailors or airmen

For instance – will the Military enable a female Major to marry a male JCO…
Like in the story above – will the Navy allow a female Lieutenant to marry a male Chief Petty Officer…

If officers can marry, date, romance or have relationships with other officers – then why prohibit relationships between officers and PBOR (Personnel Under Officer Rank)…

Strictly talking – fraternization contains officer-officer relationships as nicely – and may apply to intimate/romantic relationships between two officers of varying seniority.

Nonetheless – it seems that the definition of “fraternization” has been tweaked to use solely to relationships between officers and PBOR (troopers, sailors, airmen).

Such Officer/PBOR relationships are thought of taboo – whereas relationships and marriages between senior officers and junior officers is taken into account okay

As society becomes more fashionable and progressive – things might change.
It’s possible you’ll say that is is a colonial legacy of the “Raj” – however – at current – the “class system” continues to be prevalent in India – both in the Defence Services” – and even in the Civilian Bureaucracy.

In all places ” there are two courses – Officers and Non-Officers.
Coming back to life in army uniform – will class limitations ever break down – not less than so far as “fraternization” is anxious

Maybe – it will occur someday within the near future.
Till then – “fauji” love tales that cross the “class barrier” may have sad endings – just like the story of the sick-fated “Lovers in Uniform”. Should you share this put up, please give due credit score to the creator Vikram Karve
