On The Highway To Marrakech

I’m finally back dwelling within the U.S.A. I travel each month of the 12 months, largely internationally, attributable to my work as an author, lecturer and historical researcher. After over 30 years of traveling the globe, I have seen it all!

It is good to sleep in my bed again, though I must not get used to it: I go away again October three for Russia. So, where do I begin I was in so many places that my head is spinning. Ok, I’ll begin with the beginning.

Iceland was incredible as all the time. This country is so pricey to me and grey stone island hoodie the individuals are so kind and respectful. A part of my household back in the 800s left Sweden, raided Eire for slaves after which went on to help colonize Iceland. That is recorded in a Saga by the Vikings and talks about one called- The “sword and the leaf” (Swerdlow). The rest of my household continued on with a group called “The Rus” (The Rose) to what grew to become Russia.

Iceland produced an enormous crowd at my lecture and the response and interaction was super. Even the manager of the lodge was fascinated and reads my site repeatedly. I also thought it was humorous and telling that along a principal freeway I saw a billboard that had the Icelandic flag + EU flag = Nei Takk (no thank you). The Icelandic individuals will not be eager on joining the EU. They do not belief mainland Europe’s politics or financial system and feel that Iceland has been sabotaged by the leaders of the EU. On the day I left Iceland, it was introduced on the news there that the economic crisis for the island nation was now over! I have my doubts about that, however hope springs eternal.

Then it was on to Manchester, England. It was so great to see my outdated buddies again! They live in the town or Warrington, 20 minutes from Manchester city middle. From there I went on a road trip to Glastonbury, Stonehenge, Bath, Oxford and Birmingham, the place I had my seminar and met with folks I had only recognized over the internet.

The Tor at Glastonbury is intriguing. Supposedly, this area was visited by Joseph of Arimathea, who in keeping with legend, gave his personal tomb for use of Jesus after the crucifixion, earlier than heading on to England.

In Glastonbury, there may be the legend of the “thorn bush,” taken from the Holy Land by Joseph of Arimathea and planted there. It only blooms, mysteriously, at Christmas and Easter! This tree has been attacked thrice in the previous few months. The final attack may have destroyed it for good.

Stonehenge was a little bit of a disappointment to me. The ruins are stored behind a fence and may solely be viewed from a distance. But, one can think about what life was like here thousands of years ago when this place was built by Druids. What a story may very well be instructed by these stones!

Bath is a good place to learn about Roman-British history and see the one location within the UK that has hot springs. The museum there may be spectacular and holds many fascinating artifacts like historical coins, a human skeleton and historic jewelry. Keep on the Abbey Resort downtown. They have fantastic rooms, nice food and you may stroll to the baths.

Then I was off to scorching and sunny Morocco! Whew! What a place. On the best way I went via Faro, Portugal which was very lovely and then to Casablanca, which is a big metropolis. Not much to see there, so on to Marrakech. Right here, it is like time stood still. The historical mosques, palaces and the very crowded casbah/souk were fascinating. The incredible heat and even humidity have been overwhelming. I received food poisoning whereas there and lost lots of weight! Sure, Stewart could be very thin now!

I stayed at Le Meridien N’Fis hotel which is like an historic Moor castle with impeccable gardens and a welcoming swimming pool with bar. Take the town tour on a double-decker bus. Summer is very popular, so consider going within the cooler winter months.

I had the shiny thought of shipping my backpack to Eire in order to save on flight restrictions and carrying extra issues. Well, it never arrived and i wound up with little clothes in Eire and the frustration of finding out the place my bag went. A lot for my shiny ideas! (Just found out that my bag arrived in Eire right now. Now I need to have it shipped again to the U.S.!) Eire is always great. My pals there are so variety and generous and even gave me clothes to wear! We drove to Galway, which had very dense power and a heavy feeling. We didn’t keep long.

Then it was off to bonnie Scotland! Hoot mon! Luckily, since I used to be given clothes in Ireland, I did not must wear a kilt or shave my legs. It was windy so what others would have seen had I worn a kilt…

We went to Rosslyn Chapel and castle which were surprising smaller than I had anticipated. Lots of construction work was being completed so the energies had been disturbed. On to Edinburgh (pronounced “Edinburra”) which I completely beloved! There is far to see right here so I would like to return again someday. It was enjoyable to hear bagpipes taking part in on the street and to see King Arthur’s hill outside the city. Many legends here, together with the true origin of Scotland, which may have been historical Egyptian.

After my lecture in Stirling, I returned to Iceland. On the best way, my airplane caught on hearth! The pilot, in calm, Icelandic, down-performed common, introduced that there was gear failure and a hearth on board, which was why we smelled gasoline and an acrid fume. He said we would be met in Keflavik with emergency crews and a fireplace brigade — if we made it to Keflavik, I thought! Well, we did make it, and it was interesting to see males dressed in silver astronaut suits working as much as the airplane.

Man in silver fits examined the engine that caught hearth in flight. Not an experience to be repeated!

After that it was on to NYC after which to Chicago. The drive again to Michigan within the cold rain was soothing and welcomed. Would I do it all once more Properly, not precisely the same means, but, I am glad for what I learned and experienced.

Forgot to mention that I did a radio present — Planet X — from Liverpool. It was a fantastic studio, an excellent host and his spouse was additionally fairly lovely and useful. I have been invited again there in March to a convention sponsored by the radio show. I used to be in Liverpool throughout the Beatles festival which was exciting and cool. After all, the mess and urine within the streets afterwards was a bit much.

Okay. Enough mentioned for now. Again to work for me.
