Are you a “Jack Of All Trades” or a Master Of One?

  • January 28, 2011

I come from a construction/contracting background. Starting out as clean up boy, to siding/window installer, to finishing carpenter (journeyman), worked in the Union for a few years as such, then ran my own show doing the same for several years. Only when forced to (by lack of work in that field) did I stray away from my main trade, and the last few years of ‘them days working’ was as an electricians apprentice for my best friend who had 3X’s more work (and better pay) and local (instead of being on the road, away from my family).

I always thought (was taught) that a Jack of all Trades is usually a master of none. And that nobody wants to be a just a jack of all trades, you should strive and focus on being what you do best. I didn’t fix toilets, bang roofs, build decks, renovate or anything not directly related to what I was good at. I let the people (often hired) who were masters of THAT TRADE do that work for me. I focused on what I did best, THEY focused on what they did best (and nothing else).

The same principles I believe follow to this business very well. There is millions of guys who can do a bunch of things and run a blog or get $100 Adsense checks, but very few who are actual masters at what they do. In this massive world we all ‘know’ the same groups of people or individuals very good at what they do, true masters.

So I guess the question I’m looking to discuss, are you a Jack Of All Trades or a Master Of One? And why is it like that for you, in your point of view.
I find myself sometimes falling BACK to wanting to be a Jack, and I see so many others trying to be J.O.A.T.’s thinking that is what they need to be in todays day and age. And I think in a tough market its more important to focus on what you are good at, not spreading out into areas you maybe shouldnt be.

Which is a better country for a westerner to live in: Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia or Belarus

  • January 26, 2011

Which is the best for:

  • -Schools
  • -Hospitals
  • -Low or no taxes
  • -Long term visa
  • -General quality of life

(not for me, helping someone do some research. figured some of you may live here)
Thanks.

warsaw isn’t that cheap either, especially when you are not local ;-)
i don’t know latvia and estonia, i’m from poland and i know ukraine too (a litle)…
what i can say about Poland and Ukraine: it’s quite cheap, terrible roads, HOT GIRLS, very nice food.
you can live very ok in Poland for 1000 euros monthly (if you don’t rent something with prices for foreigners…), in Ukraine it will be even nicer for you with that money.

oh yes and we have also very nice landscapes and nature in general…forests are not behind fence like sometime in UK they are… ;-)

So, Poland:
- schools – there are not so many foreigners in Polish elementary and secondary schools…only on universites they are…generally speaking schools are OK, higher level than in USA….
- hospitals – better to have private health care and insurance (you can get that for around 100 $ monthly)…
- taxes – it depends on the income, most people pay around 20 %
- long term visa: Poland is in UE so probably the same laws as for other UE countries…
- general quality of life: it depends what you are looking for…like i said: we have great food, hot girls, quite cheap alcohol ;-P, lot of monuments and nice nature…. we don’t have: good roads and people over 40 don’t speak english in general ;-)

from the Baltic region the Estonia would be the best (and probably the only smart choice you can make) since it’s small and has good business infrastructure if you think of doing business in there, especially online business. But over there is fucking cold in winter, so you should consider some other countries.
Poland and Chez Republic are bit better, since there are lots of hot chix to keep you warm during the cold months…
Spain is good too, but they are pretty poor and undeveloped country and are in debts so it could be risky. Also having long term problems with water supply and weather due the climate changes, but Barcelona is just way too cool city to live in, so you would probably had no problems adapting…
in general it all depends on what are you looking.
if you’re looking for schools and hospitals, than Austria or Switzerland and UK would be the best places in Europe to live in, but also the most expensive ones…

Adult Business 2011: Who does money and who doesn’t ?

  • January 26, 2011

Who does money:
1) Webcam Sponsors: They are doing more money than ever. If they support illegal sites like AWEMPIRE does with file sharing sites, they do even more money. (Period) Myfreecams is probably doing more than 1 million per month profit (And im not even close I think)

2) Webcam Whores: They are the “Adult Webmasters” of 2001… While adult webmasters are almost all broke, average Webcam Whores are doing 10K – 15K per month, by working only a few hours every day. The same as most gallery submitters did 6 years ago.

3) Dating sponsors: Same as 1).

4) Average Joes shooting their own niche content or with something very unique. They can do money for some time, but if they don’t improve something new, they will be dead. If you pretend to do some bucks shotting your home made content and selling on clipstore all your life, you are dead wrong.

5) GF sites and all that bullshit are doing some bucks right now but will be dead pretty soon (if not already).

6) Illegal tubes with illegal sponsors supporting them.

7) Sponsor owners with loyal big whale affiliates with thousands of rebills from 2005… These guys are surviving of course. But they only represent a small percentage of all adult sponsors.

Who doesn’t and who is BROKE ?
1) Gallery sumitters: Most gallery submitters quit adult. One that was very known was a dutch webmaster called NYLZ, maybe you remember him? He is now involved in POKER. I name him, because he’s just an example of what happened to most of these guys.

2) TGPs-MGPs: Another model that is pretty DEAD.

3) Although blogging is a nice way to make some bucks, the truth is that only a few percentage of gallery submitters who turned bloggers, are doing the same money as before. You can’t pretend to make some bucks if you blog and convert at 1:4000 for a niche BDSM sponsor that has all his content given away for free at oron, sharingmatrix, deposit, filexonic, and 1000 sites more.

Of course someone can come and say: “ehhhh yyy im a gallery submitter and i still do money”… —> what I said above applies to 95% of people.

Feel free to add any other points.

A few cam chicks make great money, the majority failed and dropped out before they made anything.

$10-$15k a month is nice money, it’s perfect for the very small business with one staff member – but it’s not really anything compared to what many affiliates in our Industry make.

Pretty much everyone in adult today makes money several different ways. Very few of us have ever ‘only’ built galleries – it was just another way to make money. And before that it was Link Lists, then Free Hosts, then CJ’s – The progression has never stopped.

Probably a 1,000 different ways to build/drive traffic online today… so stop worrying about yesterday’s old techniques and focus on what is working today.
TheDoc

If galleries are dead can anyone explain how they still manage to charge $100 a link, and a lot have that much advertising that they don’t even respond to requests for advertising space. For example we emailed Milkman about buying spots and he/she never replied.

look at the competition for aduld adwords and see how much people are bidding, they seem to have money there.

If the adult market was failing would not the price of traffic be falling ?

The problem is that advertising and traffic is expensive and conversions hard.

The other problem is a lack of sites that have real original content and therefore real visitors/traffic where we can get traffic and sales from.

When I look at our affiliates that make sales they all have interesting quirky sites with good content, and their sales with us have gone up as we have grown.

I want to be just like him!

  • January 18, 2011

The other day there was some fight I was involved with a one established webmaster. Now, as long as I didn’t approved his job offer I do admire what’s he done in past 3 years since he started as webmaster.

On the other hand I can understand how the rest people who are friends of that webmaster don’t follow his steps and do what he done and they will have income like he have! They support him, they defend his, they want to make money he does but I didn’t saw single webmaster on the board where they hang that followed him.

Seriously, is that so hard? Is it hard to sit down and say:ok, that webmaster X have 90 sites, each sites have from 100 to 500 pages, all pages are seo optimized and that fromthey get traffic, all sites are linked betwen them and he also exchanged links with 10s of other sites. Now he have 100k daily and makes good money. He done that in 3 years.

I will make almost same thing and will be like him in 3 years!

I guess the biggest problem is those 3 years. People wants money and want it now. That’s why majority of people works for others.
