Content girls: pay your taxes!

  • July 24, 2009

it never fails: every so often I get a huge package from the IRS with some new girl who owes them a bucket of money from a few years back
so i have to waste my valuable time filling it out telling the IRS that she doesn’t work for me, that i don’t have any new address or info on her, then mail it back at my own expense
fellow producers in the US, i’m sure you get this a lot as well right?
so content girls… don’t be a deadbeat: pay your fucking tax bills so the IRS leaves the honest businesses that actually employ people alone to continue contributing to this economy

i swear i’ll start posting their stage names soon (not, but it would feel good to do so)

Florida city manager fired because wife works in porn

  • July 24, 2009

From FARK - with of course the always popular Florida tag…
http://www.kplr11.com/news/nationwor…,1903350.story
Still, Kiker insisted that Janke wasn’t fired because of his wife’s job.
"We didn’t fire him because his wife was a porn star," Kiker griped, adding that the decision wasn’t a "knee-jerk reaction."
However, the mayor also noted: "It was not his job performance. We all liked Scott … He’s a good guy."
Kiker said he learned of Janke’s wife’s job after receiving a telephone call from a reporter on Tuesday. He said he then spoke to Janke, who agreed "this was going to be a big disruption for the town and he was not going to be able to do his job well."
Within a few hours, Kiker had called an emergency town council meeting, and the group voted 5-0 to exercise a "no-cause" clause in Janke’s contract, effectively firing him.

Janke said he married Anabela Mota Janke, who goes by the stage name Jazella Moore, in October. He began working for the town in March 2008.
Dan Miller, editor at the AVN Media Network, which covers the adult industry, said he had not heard of a similar case, but noted the adult film industry is "not necessarily widely accepted" in mainstream American politics.
Diane Duke, executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, a trade association for the adult entertainment industry, said the firing could present legal problems for the town.
Duke said even with a "no-cause" clause in Jenke’s contract, as a government employee he is still protected by the First Amendment.
"There may very well be a case here," she said.
Added Howard Simon, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida: "His firing may run up against Florida’s law that prohibits discrimination based on marital status."

My prediction: Flash will die within 5 years.

  • July 5, 2009

I believe the new HTML 5 elements + Javascript could entirely replace Flash in a near future.
Here are some amazing JS experiments that really convinced me:

There is even some experimental OpenGL plugins for JS to handle 3d graphics.

Sponsors using content providers as 3rd party 2257 custodians?!

  • July 4, 2009

IMHO The whole 3rd party custodian was a very progressive move by Big Brother. The beauty is that it makes it easier for freesite owners to comply with 2257… Even if it does take a little work on the part of us smalltime webmasters, it is a good thing because it actually makes it possible for freesite owners to specify their sponsors’ custodians as their 3rd party custodians. Hell… It should even make sponsors breath a sigh of relief due to not having to release to model ids to 1000’s of webmasters… Some who may not actually be real webmasters. ;)
This system would work, as long as the sponsors have an actual custodian and are not trying to use the regs to their own advantage and passing the buck onto their content providers or the primary producers as their own 3rd party custodians… and I’ve noticed that alot of them are doing this.
This is where I get pissed off. Why would a sponsor not have his own custodian of records? I can understand having a 3rd party custodian who knows your sites, content used on each site, your affiliate ids and websites, but passing the buck to content providers or primary producers is rediculous. The content provider has already given up the the required docs when the content was purchased. If he didn’t then you shouldn’t use the content.
This practice leaves affiliates bare assed when it comes to compliance and any sponsors who have compliance pages that pass the buck to primary producers and content providers need their asses kicked. What happens when a content provider or primary producer refuses to provide inspectors document for images on a site owned by someone he never sold content to and has no idea who owns? Simple answer… A small-time webmaster gets a knock on the door from pissed off inspectors and ends up going to prison.

I don’t know how many sponsors I have dropped recently due to this idiotic policy and anyone who doesn’t do the same is gonna get caught with their drawers down when an inspector visits their sites.

Credit Card Processing Company Authorize.net Knocked Offline

  • July 4, 2009

Illustrating the continued fragility of the modern Internet, threads in both the Zen Cart and Web Hosting Talk forums indicate that one of the country’s largest credit card authorization networks has gone completely offline. According to several posters, a "perfect storm" was created by the combination of a data center fire and the July 4 weekend holiday, resulting the company going completely dark for more than five hours and counting. The company’s phone lines and this Authorize.net website remains offline as of this writing. If your weekend beer purchase didn’t go through, now you know why….
