Question about professionalism

  • February 28, 2008

I have a quick question for blog owners and webmasters. I recently started an adult blog writing service and have had the pleasure to work for some great folks in the industry, Pam and Rage-Ben, just to name two.
Since starting, my main marketing has been on all of the webmaster boards by starting threads, where I’ve noticed what seems to me, to be a disturbing trend. Whether with posts I’ve started, or other writers, I’ve seen writers other than the original poster dropping into the thread to advertise their services as well. I see it happen all the time. I want to differentiate this from a thread where a possible client posts asking for writers, that’s obviously fair game. I’m talking about when a writer starts a thread offering a deal or promotion, or a thread specifically for the purpose of advertising his or her services.
My question is, as the consumer when you see a writer come into a thread like that, is that turn off for you? Do you think it speaks to their professionalism and the way they do business? I’m just wondering because it really struck me. On one occasion I did post in someone’s thread after they had done it to me, and then realized that regardless of provocation it wasn’t the way I wanted to do business and portray myself on the web. So I just wanted to get some feedback and comments from you guys. Because if everyone says, no that’s fair game, and no one sees it as problematic I guess I’m just going to have to adapt and realize that it’s one of those situations where the bar is low.
Thank you for your time.
