How do you NOT get fucked in the ass by taxes? (Those making >$500,000 a year)

  • January 31, 2008

Im Canadian, and I am sick and fucking tired of losing close to half my income on taxes. I know that there are a lot of similarities between the Canadian and American system, so I think Americans are in the same boat.

Since I do not have a regular job, taxes arent automatically taken out of my paycheck. That means that I need to do taxes myself, and it also means that I need to keep track of every single freaking purchase and its receipt or else I cannot claim them as deductables, and I have to pay taxes on these purchases.

Everyone told me I need to setup a corporation or else I am going to get owned on taxes. So I set one up, and honestly I do not see how setting up a corporation saves you much on taxes (if at all). First you have to pay your 22% or so corporate tax, and then when you want to actually use your money for yourself (instead of it sitting in a corporate bank account) you need to give yourself a salary - and then pay tax on that again. So realistically, there is a damn good chance youll actually be paying more on taxes with a corporation. See some math below.

Say you make $500,000 a year - and you designate a salary of $200,000 for yourself. So you pay 22% corporate tax on $300,000 ($66,000) and an additional $65,565 on your salary personal income tax, for a total of $131,565. But of course, that $300,000 still in your corporate bank account is not YOUR money yet - so in the future, if you want to buy a house or a car or something with that money, you need to give it to yourself first (that means you pay income tax) and then you can spend it. Someone please tell me how having a corporation saves you any money? Unless you plan on making nothing for a few years, you can give yourself a salary of $30,000 or something and not pay any income tax (or very little).. but if you continue making money, youre gonna get fucked with a high tax rate on your ‘income’ withdrawal from your corporation. Say I stop working and bring in no money, and the next year I give myself $200,000 and the year later $100,000 - that means I pay another $65,565 and $27,261 - for a total of $224,391. Instead, if I didnt have a corporation, and paid income tax on that $500k, Id pay only $182,565 in income tax.

So what do you guys do?

Even if you setup an offshore corporation - the same problem occurs.. that money is not your money yet (its your businesses) and therefore you cant spend it on your house, groceries, etc until you give yourself a salary and pay income tax on that.

Am I missing something?

How to Build a Profitable Thumblog!!!

  • January 30, 2008

I promised a checklist on creating a Thumblog. And here it is.
All Comment Welcome!!! and appreciated!!!

Thumblog setup: This list assumes you have picked and registered a subdomain. If not do it.

1. Open Word. I like Word because it gives me the character count. (Tools/Word Count… and underscores in red my misspellings) Decide on a Title and a Description and chose 10 Keywords and write these out. (Title should be no more than 4 words and should NEVER be changed, ever. Description should be no more than 254 characters, including spaces, I go over 254 and I start cutting text. Keywords should be separated by a comma.)
2. Login to Thumblogger, go to the edit for your new Thumblog.
3. Enable RSS and three check boxes. (Options/Options)
4. Title and description for RSS (Use the title and description you wrote for the Thumblog)
5. Reset "Number of Log entries" from 35 to 8 in all three fields.
6. Check the box: Disable comments on your blog
7. Switch the editor to "The old editor, blogger look (Activate HTML tab on load )" (Makes it easier for me to edit)
8. Go to Options/Move Boxes and move the Info, Links, and Bookmark boxes to the center.
9. Go to Looks/HTML wizards and click HTML begin.
10. Enter Title, Description, Keywords, click Change.
11. Go to Looks/ Page header and click HTML begin.
12. Under "3. Image header disabled" enter Title for Header text and Description for Quote text.
13. Now go to Blog/Log items and enter some posts. I would use FHG’s and post at least 100. 30 in the past as archive, 1 for today and 69 to post daily.

At this stage of the game you actually do have a working blog that could make money, but nobody knows it exists. Now comes the marketing.

1. Go to Feedburner.com and register the blog. Make sure you like the title of the feed. I use Publicize: PingShot, FeedCount, and Chicklet Chooser.
2. Go to addthis.com and get the bookmark widget.
3. Go to Options/Boxes/ Manage boxes and click edit for the first empty or unused box.
4. Name the box Subscribe to me…
5. Paste your FeedCount and Chicklet Chooser code into the box, and your Bookmark widget from AddThis.com. Click Change.
6. Go to Options/Move Boxes and move the box Subscribe to me to the right column.
7. Go to Options/Boxes/ Manage boxes and click edit for the first empty or unused box.
8. Name the box More Good Porn!!!
9. Add links to all your sites in this box. Click Change.
10. Go to Options/Move Boxes and move the box More Good Porn to the right column.

You now have a blog that is SEO (Search Engine Optimized) with content that will notify the world of its existence through the Feedburner.com ping, and is crosslinked to your other blogs and sites. This is the very basic. Now I would suggest you:

1. Add banner ads to the side columns. DO NOT forget to add a sentence of text below each ad. TEXT sells much better than ‘picture ads’ in the columns, but you need to banner/picture ad to catch their eye.
2. Go to Free Adult Webmaster Stuff and add your URL to the "Adult Directories/Search Engines", the "RSS Feed submission" and the "Search Engines" that do not require a reciprocal link. There are 29 at this writing. FREE Links, beat that…

Now you are own your own. You have a complete fully functional working blog and did it in 2 hours, if you had coffee and a cig.
The one thing I like to add is a trading script. Right now I am using Link Organizer. It does not dovetail with Thumblogger, so there is a little work, but I think it is worth it, especially since it has a built in Top Refers list feature. I do not add a graphic header since I want the text at the top to be visible for the spiders.

One other good addition is RSS feed from 1 or 2 (at the most) blogs that you own on the exact same niche. Thumblogger has an RSS box you can use and there are several services that offer RSS to Javascript conversion for your inclusion.

Now, as long as I am writing… Lets talk about number of sponsors… I try Very, Very hard to use the FHG’s or RSS feed from just one paysite per Thumblog. If I just have to because there are too few posts I might use 2, but it is as a last resort. This begs the question, "What if they don’t like that one site?" That is why you cross link your sites. Good example is tits (Love Tits!!! Thought you would want to know.) There are teen tits, black tits, mature tits, tit fucking, petite tits. Ideally you would have a site for each. I like mature tits. If I am browsing a tit site and it is suppose to be mature and I see a teen tit, I bail. As said time after time pick a niche and build all the Thumblogs you can for that niche. I guarantee you will be so, so, so far ahead of the crowd. When I started I wanted one blog in every niche. I built one blog in every niche and lucked upon a sale once in a great while. I suddenly developed the ability to listen to my elders. Now this is what I do. I actually make more than one sale a month. I made the mistake of trying be all things to all porn surfers and it cost me years, yes, years of struggling to get it right. You want to prove you are smarter than I was, start off by doing it right, from the beginning. Pick a niche.

Hope someone finds this of use.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone read this far?

Randy

I must be making an impact…

  • January 30, 2008

Today, I think I reached a milestone in my blogging career. I had my first "offer" for SEO services from a professional in the field. A totally unsolicited email (not spam though) offering to boost my site to within the top 3 results on google, yahoo, etc. I think I’ll politely decline, though…I seem to be doing ok thus far on my own! ….with a little help from my AWG friends, of course.

lol. Not sure if it’s an actual milestone or not, but it makes me feel like I must have accomplished SOMEthing to garner that guy’s attention. yay for minor accomplishments!

It’s for real…. Zombaio is here! [OFFICIAL THREAD]

  • January 29, 2008

Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Jesper and I’m working with first line sales and support at Zombaio. There are many new threads with speculations about Zombaio, how it works and if we’re going to last. I’m here to try to help you understand who we are, what we do and why we do it.

I want to start by saying that we are not (how strange it may sound) trying to make you all change payment service provider over a night. We come from the iGaming industry, and understand how important trust and track record is. If I were running an adult site/network, I wouldn’t change biller over a night, especially not to a new one I’ve never heard of. Zombaio’s work in the adult business has just begun and we know that it will take timer, maybe years for you to gain trust in Zombaio.

There are a few competitors out there; I think you know them very well. Some of them have done this really well and other has failed. I don’t think the one that failed (not mention any names) were scam nor did it with purpose, maybe a portion of bad luck and a week backbone of acquiring partners led to their fate.

Ok, now to Zombaio. What is so great with us!?
Well… Zombaio does not have the experience as our competitors from the adult business, to say anything else would be a lie. However, we have from our parent company many years of experience from the iGaming industry which those of you who have been there know is as much critical as the adult industry when it comes to the financial and time critic systems. Well, of course I think we’re in a position to manage this really well but at the end of the day it’s really up for you to judge.

We have had a lot of questions regarding visa registration fee, rolling reserve and our marketable processing prices. First; the Visa registration fee is easy, without taking this fee for you we would not be able to take market shares, the initial fee is a big cost for many webmasters and we will at the end of the day get back this cost from your processing fee over time anyway. Regarding the rolling reserve; that’s correct; we don’t have a rolling reserve by default. But if we experience heavy chargeback problems with the client or its affiliates we will put the client in a rolling reserve program. We just don’t think clients without chargeback problems should suffer from events created by our “bad” clients. Now to the processing costs; why can we take up to 50% less than some competitors? Well.. as I wrote earlier; we’re coming from an extreme fraud exposed industry with money laundering, chip dumping and collusion just to mention some of the problems. Over the time we have developed an extremely fraud secure platform in combination with 3D Secure (Verified By Visa and MasterCard Secure Code) which has given our main acquiring partner a confidence over the years and are in their way giving us good interchange fees for third party processing. That in a combination with a cost efficient platform we’re able to hold down our service fee for a minimum to you.

So, do I think you should try us? Of course, it would be a misconduct to say anything else. If I were in your shoes and found this new PSP, I would start by doing a comparison of costs from my current payment service provider and the new PSP (Note: Daily payout is by default, but not required. If you are thinking about the payout fees and want weekly or amount based payouts it’s not a problem). Then I would think about if it’s financial worth trying. If not, I would probably not change if I didn’t have any issues with my current processor. But if I would find it financial worth it, I would start with a low-traffic site or place the new PSP at the last place on my cascading list. In Zombaio’s case the risk is not too big due to the daily payouts. But at the end of the day the risk is what you make it. I would never just have one payment service provider. Just like Zombaio never will have just one or two acquiring partners.

Well… I think I have said what I had in mind. I read in a thread something about having something not so cool done with my ass after this statement, so I guess I’m ready for that ;)

I just want to end (start) with a big welcome to all new clients and are hoping to get to know many of you in person during the years. And for those of you that are skeptical; we have been a payment service provider since 2003 and will still be for many years to come. I you for some reason in the future want to review your PSP’s…We’re still here…. That’s a promise!
I’m sure this will result in many questions and I will do my best to keep up with you. If you have posted questions that I’ve not been able to follow up on this board, please send them to sales@zombaio.com and post the reply here.

This has been making me money….

  • January 29, 2008

I have been trying the strategy below on a few (free) sites i use to promote my pay site http://zgasm.com and im seeing positive results.

You need Google analytics.

The "strategy" is this….Collect stats for a whileAfter a few weeks (i use months) goto Traffic Sources > Referring SourcesSort by visitsChange "Show Rows" to 100You should now have a list of your top 100 referring sources sorted by the # of visitors they have sent you…From here i eye ball the sites that send the highest % of new visitors.
I then force traffic to sites that match this criteria:89% or higher new visitorsHigh "Ave time spent on site"High pages/visit

The whole thing takes like 2 min max and i do it 100% by eyeballing. I suppose its just a productivity measurement, but the past 3-4 times i have tried this, i noticed increased sign ups over the next couple days.

Does anyone do anything similar/along those lines? Got any suggestions?
